How to sand out a run in your paint job:

So, the whole car looks beautiful in that new paint job....except for that ugly little run by the driver's door handle, that's going to stare at you every time you get in. You've tried to sand out runs before. The problem is that you sand through the adjacent paint / clear by the time the run is gone. Now you're redoing the entire panel. Next time, try this method:

Spread a layer of spot putty (glazing putty, body filler, whatever) over the run and the adjacent area. Sand away. As the run is removed, so is the adjacent filler, protecting the paint / clear under it. Buff out the sand scratches, and you're done.

Remember us for you spring paint projects.
